    Herb's Description

    Narcissus tazetta Linn., 1 ft. 2 in. to 1 ft. 6 in. long, and 8 in. girth, which blooms from late winter through early spring. The presence in its leaves and roots of innumerable bundles of needle-shaped crystals of calcium oxalate, termed raphides, protect it from injury of browsing and gnawing animals, rendering the plants indigestible and possibly poisonous to cattle and smaller animals.
